[edit] Story Synopsis

Bullet is a story that begins to unfold in a Japanese city. The story begins with a flashback to a memory of a little girl, who grows up to be the main heroine, Nikita Katayanara. In her flashback, she recalls her father's abusive personality, the way he beat her and her mother, and his final moments in her life before he abandoned the family.

Thirteen years later, Nikita is barely scraping by living in slums with her mother, who has nearly lost her mind and does nothing but drink. The young girl has no dreams, no hopes, no life, just the repetitive pattern of going to school where she is looked down upon, working endless hours, and trying to take care of her semi conscious mother. The only thing in her life making her smile is a classmate, Matsuda Renmaru, a popular but polite classmate, whom she is too scared to approach.

As an ordinary day unfolds for Nikita, she escapes to the roof of her school during lunch hours where she is alone. However, there she encounters Matsuda, but is too shocked to say anything. Matsuda, being as oblivious and polite as he usually is approaches Nikita and so their relationship begins to unfold, her crush becoming an inseparable friendship, while his friendship grows into love.

Ecstatic after talking to Matsuda, Nikita misses her train stop to work, getting off as soon as she can. Only as to where she got off, she has no clue. An abandoned part of the city, every surface covered in bullet holes and scum. Trying to figure out where she has to go, she begins to run in the direction she hopes is right. And here, she encounters Daigo Mitsugori, finishing off another bottle in the corner of an alley. She hesitates only for a moment and continues to run, but his face seems too familiar, too much unforgettable...

As Nikita is at work, the final scene of the chapter shows a murder of a man, the killer being Daigo himself. He persists on getting information from the man, who refuses to talk. Daigo seems to be searching for something, and the only information the man will tell him is that a man named "Katayanara" stole what he is looking for. Refusing to tell more, he provokes Daigo, his final words consist of "I know they call you the "Bullet". A bloodthirsty murderer all for money! Stabbed your own mother to death, didn't you?". And here, the real story begins.
