[edit] Issue 1 - Blood & Puppies
One still night in the town of Lacuna, a scream rips through the village. Understandably, this wakes several of the villagers. One elven villager investigates the source of the cry and is startled by what he sees.
One of the well liked villagers, CopperFox, is crying in a crumpled heap on the floor. Above her crouches a fearsome InnerDust elf, also called 'Glenney'. In the Glenney's shadowed hand is a cruel looking knife. Tears roll down CopperFox's cheeks and she digs her fingers against her attacker's shoulder.
The Glenney rises slowly, before lunging at the curious male elf in the doorway. The Glenney pushes past the good Samaritan and into the village streets. An angry, torch and weapon wielding mob greets him. The InnerDust elf runs.
As the horde of farmers and law abiding men chase the InnerDust elf, CopperFox slowly emerges from her hut. We see that she is heavy with child and in great pain.
Meanwhile, the Glenney has climbed up a towering cliff in an effort to lose the angry mob. To his misfortune, he finds that a dead end lay in his path. Turning, the Glenney also sees that the mob had caught up to him. He balls his fists and sneers, with intent to fight, but a villager flails a torch at the InnerDust elf's night-accustomed eyes: little embers burn his face and the glare from the fire blinds him severely. Clutching his face, the InnerDust elf cries out, reeling backwards. The cliff gives way, and the InnerDust elf falls into blackness.
Copperfox sees all these going-on's from her front porch. She screams out in extreme agony, shedding a tear as she falls unconscious.
Underneath her, in a pool of life-sustaining fluid, lay her newborn daughter.
Time passes and the girl, ShadowWolf, appears to be five years old. We learn through her narration what life was like for her as a child, happy and routine.
One day, all that comes to a head as, for no explanation or warning at all, a clan of Orcs attack Lacuna village. Chaos breaks out and in the carnage, CopperFox is killed and ShadowWolf is taken captive.
While being held prisoner by the Orcs, who taunt her with her mother's severed head, ShadowWolf hears a voice. It is the voice of the Wargs, the Orc's monstrous, wolf-like mounts. Freeing herself, ShadowWolf creeps over to the Wargs and upon touching them, a telepathic bond is formed. She sees the torture they endured at the hands of the Orcs and her little mind all but snaps. She manages to free the Wargs, who turn on their Orc masters. In the confusion, ShadowWolf rescues a wolf pup and evades the leader of the Orc clan, a situation that seems to result in his death.
[edit] Issue 2 - Drinking Games
ShadowWolf and her pup Xanther are now all grown up, and they're bartering for goods in a town called SweetRoad. They pass by an inn and ShadowWolf contemplates resting, which Xanther encourages. ShadowWolf insists on traveling more.
They are being tracked by Orcs.
Upon nightfall, the travelers enter another town and overhear gossip: SweetRoad was attacked, not a single survivor. ShadowWolf sits and asks the bar wench for the location of a good mercenary. The maid pointed out Issues of Pylon.
ShadowWolf approaches Issues, offering him a job slaying Orcs. Issues tells her that he is retired, but ShadowWolf challenges him to a game of chess, which she utterly loses. She stalks off, angry.
A moment later, ShadowWolf is thrown through the inn wall and a ruckus starts. Three Orcs pile into the inn. This has caught Issues' attention...
[edit] Characters
ShadowWolf of Lacuna: ShadowWolf is the narrator. The tale begins before her birth. ShadowWolf is the daughter and student of CopperFox of Lacuna. An accomplished thief and wanderer by default, she's grown into a cold, apathetic and selfish being, leading a one woman genocide against Orcs. It is not yet known when or where ShadowWolf is telling the tale from, nor why.
Xanther: ShadowWolf's oldest friend and confident. He was rescued by a young ShadowWolf from N'Grall as a puppy.
N'Grall: N'Grall is the clan leader of a violent tribe of Orcs. For unknown reasons, they raized Lacuna Village, distroying everything ShadowWolf held dear. She was the only survivor of N'Grall's bloodlust and now searches for answers as to why.
CopperFox of Lacuna: CopperFox is first seen in the beginning pages of Elven Lacryment. A loving mother, she is native to The Lacuna Village, on the continent of Razir, and is the breeder of the village's core line of defense- a pack of large wolves. CopperFox is the proud, single mother of a young daughter, ShadowWolf.
Issues of Pylon: Issues of Pylon was once a noble soldier; now a damaged, tattered martyr working for the highest bidder.
