[edit] Overview

Eugene Manx is an espionage story based around the idea that many Nazis who escaped the Nuremberg Trials are planning to bring about a Fourth Reich. It is set in the 1950s, and the Nazis in it have developed numerous "futuristic" technologies such as flying saucers, death rays and cyborgs, using the technology of the day. Along with a mysterious "blue gas" with electrical properties in some stories.

Some of the stories are based on versions of conspiracy theories, related to Nazism or otherwise. For instance the existence of Nazi flying saucers, genetic experiments to create "supermen" and even a Nazi version of the Philadelphia project.

The comic itself is unashamedly based on old-fashioned Boys' Own adventure comics such as Commando and Victor. Like These old stories it is partly jingoistic and has a simplistic "black & white" approach to morality. It is also part of the chromepunk genre.

[edit] Characters

Eugene Manx

The hero of the story, he was born in 1913 and a year later his father went off to fight in the Great war and survived. The young Eugene grew up with tales of the war and how his father "answered the call" and went off to serve Germany in her hour of need.

As the Nazis rose to power Eugene married, but his wife was killed in 1937 whilst in a Jewish-owned bakery which was attacked in a drive-by shooting by the SS. Throughout the war he secretly participated in the double cross from within Germany. Pretending to be working for Nazi intelligence but actually transmitting thier plans to the Allies, and "intercepting" false reports and passing them on to his superiors as fact.

After the war he escaped Berlin and surrendered to the United States. For 5 years he was trained in various aspects of espionage, and self-taught himself the ways of various martial arts. In 1950 he finally left the network of spies watching the Communist East Germany and joined MI20, a new branch of British intelligence dedicated to hunting down the escaped Nazis.

The Brigadier

The leader of MI20, He hasn't had much characterisation as yet, but is generally the typical upper-class officer type. However he is also seen as a bit of an eccentric for wanting to concentrate on the "beaten" Nazi threat, rather than on the Soviets.

Minet Chaton

A former member of the French Resistance who has become MI20's main contact in France.

Mark Reed, Alex Hawthorn, Pauline Dixon

Members of MI20 in Britain

Claude Dugarre, Xavier Auriol, Eric Lebrun

Members of MI20 in France

Otto Schultz

A former SS sergeant living in Paris, pretending to be an artist. He is secretly involved in a society based in Toulon which wants to revive Nazism

August Karven

The main bad guy of the series, formerly a Gestapo Captain

[edit] History

An earlier version of Eugene Manx was put online from September 2006, but was unscripted and meandering. The new version has a script, and is also intended to be published in 5-page chunks in a self-published comic called The Red, White & Blue. Which means a cliffhanger or revalation every 5 pages.

[edit] Future

At the time of writing, only one page of Eugene Manx is actually online. In future it is hoped the finished story can be self published in the format of the British Comic Annuals (hardback, approx A4 size, 100-odd pages). Perhaps one or two of them depending on the number of pages the entire story encompasses. However printing cost is likely to be a major hurdle.

The first story is underway, and is a relatively standard espionage yarn. 5 future stories are roughly sketched out, and a total of about 15 are eventually planned. These ones are likely to stray more into the realm of conspiracies, secret technology and grand plans to start world war 3. The story is intended to encompass from 1950 to 1959, with a last one sometime in the 60's. A prequel series called Eugene's War is also planned for the distant future, encompassing 1936-1945
