[edit] Story
Geeks - the Comic Strip follows the misadventures of Chris, Lee, Cheryl and Justin, who work at Comics Dungeon. The strip chronicles their day-to-day lives and activities within and outside of the store. Day to day activities usually involve Chris upsetting customers (usually fans of Star Trek and Joss Whedon), quests to sci-fi and comic conventions, roleplay gaming and the usual business of running a comic-book, roleplay gaming and sci-fi memorabelia store. Guest appearances have so far been the likes of Wil Wheaton, Jason Hawes, Grant Wilson and Steve Gonsalves from TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society), William Shatner and Elvis Trooper.
[edit] History
Geeks - the Comic Strip was born from a project by Carl Anderson which was to have been a series of mini-web-episodes. However, due to timing problems and cast schedules, the plan to make the live action episodes was dropped, and even considered to be a one-off to be filmed at San Diego International Comic-Con (this plan is still being considered.) In the transition from planned live action to webcomic, a few things changed. The main location went from being a roleplay gaming store to a comicbook and roleplay gaming store. Then came the addition of Lee's younger cousin, Justin. The move also allowed the freedom to do more bizarre storylines and visual humour without the need for special effects.
Geeks - the Comic Strip began life in March 2007 on the drunkduck.com website. But as of August 2008, Geeks tCS moved to it's own server, and all ties to drunkduck were severed and all strips were removed from the drunkduck site.
[edit] Main Characters
[edit] Chris
Chris is the main owner of Comics Dungeon. He has a very acerbic sense of humour and very sarcastic manner. The main target for his wrath are Trekkies and Joss Whedon fans. He is a down-to-earth geek, who has no time for the die-hard fans and those whose fandoms teeter over the edge of obsession.
Chris is a huge Doctor Who and Star Wars fan. Some believe that his utter lack of tolerance towards Trekkies is that down deep-inside, he is in fact a lapsed Star Trek fan who grew tired of how said fans were treated like cash-cows.
Chris mentors Justin, the store junior, in the ways of Geekdom, whilst also leading him over to the darkside.
Chris has now started to date Cheryl, only allowing her to see his more softer and romantic side.
[edit] Lee
Lee is co-owner of Comics Dungeon, and works hard to keep Chris reigned in on a tight leash. He is the calm to Chris' maelstrom. He is known to be the GM (games master) that many fear, and when he plans his super quests or campaigns, then every gamer within a twenty-mile radius feel dread. His cunning when it comes to roleplay gaming is only matched by his devotion to detail. Lee is constantly pulled into one of Chris' bizarre schemes, very much against his wishes. Though he doesn't show it that often, Lee also possesses a very sly and sarcastic side. His wit is as subtle and sharp as a Ninja throwing star, striking without warning and with deadly accuracy.
Like Chris, Lee is an avid Star Wars fan, though he loves all things fantasy and science fiction.
[edit] Cheryl
Cheryl is the store gamer-chick and accountant. She is attractive and upon meeting her, many do not believe that she is a geek. Cheryl loves nothing more than spending hours playing online games, watching movies and reading. She,also, is a fan of Star Wars and many comics, though she doesn't publicly announce such facts. Only when she slips and shows her geekness by quoting trivia does the truth become apparent.
Cheryl constantly comes to the attentions of many geeks and finds herself lusted after by many customers of the store, whom she casually belittles without remorse.
Chris on numerous occasions has tried to talk her into wearing the Slave Leia costume to conventions. She refuses, but once when she did relent, it got her into a run-in with a cosplayer she had met before.
Cheryl has now started to date Chris, and quietly hopes to bring out the better side of his nature.
[edit] Justin
Justin is the little cousin of Lee, and when he isn't busy with High School homework, helps out at the store. He works hard to make himself a part of the team, by joining in with the store's roleplay gaming group, gaming nights and attending the conventions with the other staff members. He gets flustered around girls, which amuses Cheryl and Chris. He is a gaming geek, who loves nothing more than spending hours at his games consoles or behind his PC.
Chris has taken it upon himself to mentor Justin and turn him to the darkside of geekdom.
[edit] The Hand of Luke Skywalker aka Hand
After a night-time mission to retrieve their stock shipment that was caught in the holding warehouse of the local parcel delivery company, Chris wound up taking what seemed to be a replica of Luke Skywalker's lightsaber from the warehouse's lost and unclaimed area. However, it turned out to somehow be the real thing. In taking it, he left behind the hand, which had been attached to it. Eventually the hand came looking for the lightsaber and found it's way to the comic store, where it attacked Chris.
In exchange for his keeping what he claimed from the lost and unclaimed, Chris offered the hand a job at the store, to perform tasks behind the counter, ala Thing from The Addams Family.
Though the lightsaber actually works, no one is sure that the hand is truly that of Luke Skywalker, as that would blur the line between reality and fiction (though the strip does break the fourth wall on numerous occasions.)
Also Hand is only referred to as such, due to Chris and Lee fear the unstoppable wrath of George Lucas and his army of Ninja lawyers.
[edit] Dave
Dave is a Star Wars memorabilia collector with a major passion. His main focus is the Star Wars toys. His passion, however, is also his biggest demon. His stress started to show when he got over-excited by a new super-articulated figure, which he took off pack. When he realised his action, he broke down, much to the amusement of Chris. After a short spell, he returned, promising never to let the stress get the better of him. However, during a visit to a local toystore, Chris pointed out a child opening a rare figure, sending Dave into an almost Hulk-like frenzy. Dave's rampage could only be stopped by Chris screening a copy of the 1978 Star Wars Christmas Special, in the store; much to the pain and horror of the every person within the store, as well as Dave.
Not long after, Dave was incarcerated within the walls of Arkright Asylum. Like Hannibal Lectur; Dave sits and waits, for his freedom and need to saciate his hunger to collect everything and anything bearing the Star Wars title.
[edit] Tim
Tim simply is just Tim. He's a nice guy. Everyone likes him and his passion for comics and books cannot be shaken. He was a store regular who has now become a member of the Comics Dungeon staff, to fill the void left by the fact that Justin's summer holidays are now over and he's started High School. Recently, Tim has started to date Angela, Cheryl's sex-crazed best friend.
