Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space (also known as I Was Kidnapped By Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space and LPFOS) is a webcomic created by freelance lesbian artist Megan Rose Gedris. The comic centers on Susan Bell, a 1950s secretary who is kidnapped by a group of lesbian pirates, the humorous and risqué situations that develop as she lives with them, and her realization that she is a lesbian. The comic is licenced by Platinum Studios.

[edit] History

Gedris created the comic in 2006 as a antidote to the portrayals of lesbians in the comics media. The comic is based on the Cold War pulp novels about lesbians. She entered the Platinum Comics Comic Book Challenge and was a finalist (first place going to D.J. Coffman for Hero by Night).[1] As a result, Platinum started to publish the comic via the DrunkDuck webcomics site; in May 2008, the first story arc was sold in print.

[edit] Lesbian Pirates

The Lesbian Pirates are a race of Amazonesque beings who come from an unnamed planet only referred to as Homeplanet or Lesbos-3, which is part of the planetary system of Lesbos. Among their basic characteristics:

  • They all possess antennae;
  • They are all lesbian women, who use men as breeding stock;
  • They appear to be stronger and longer-lived than humans.

Early in the narrative, it was not clear why they were kidnapping girls, until it was revealed that they were lookng for their lost crown princess. They eventually returned the kidnapped girls.

[edit] Main characters

[edit] Pirates Crew

  • Susan "Susie" Bell - A secretary from Earth, a closeted lesbian, kidnapped by the crew of Lesbian Pirates. She is outed and enters a love relationship with the Captain. She loves shoes more than anything in life, except maybe the Captain.
  • The Captain - Redheaded leader of the pirate crew, sporting green eye shadow. It is revealed at the end of the first arc that her real name is Janet McSapphic.
  • Marge - The navigator and first mate, with a purple beehive, a patch on her right eye, and a skull and bones tattoo on her right shoulder. She enjoys a drink and contemplating the stars, and has a crush on her crew mate Velma.
  • Velma - Another member of the crew, who tried to seduce Susan on the first issue. She's a real player. There is actually a city on the planet Turok 7 named after her "Because every girl there..." (she was interrupted before she could finish her sentence). She use to have a feud with Marge, since she could not tell her she loved her. They are in a love-hate relation now.
  • Dr. Wendy - The most insane member of the crew. She does not knot much about medicine (she earned her degree in medicine degree by torturing her dean), but is an excellent inventor. She invented a gaydar that is used to find lesbians in the universe.
  • Alice - Mechanic and, besides Susan and Betty, the only sane member of the crew. She has green eyes and hair, and in moments of extreme shock or stress her right eye's pupil dilates. Went on one date with Dr. Wendy, but it didn't work out.
  • Betty - An assistant for Male Man. It is later revealed that she is the lost princess by her birthmark: two interlocked female gender signs under the navel.

[edit] Antagonists

  • Male Man - A "superhero" who is a male chauvinistic parody of Superman. Unable to do anything without his sidekick, Betty. His real name is Andrew Manly, and he works as a bank clerk on planet Phlebon-6. Among his features is a male sign on his chest; his name, Andrew, is a pun derived from Andros (Άνδρος), Greek for "man."
  • Sally Speed - A heterosexual race pilot who lost to the Captain, and whom the Captain tried to date. Since she is heterosexual, the Captain stole her ship. She renamed the ship as Artemesia.

[edit] Crossovers

  • YU+ME: A Dream, another webcomic of the same author, shows a poster featuring Marge.
  • A special one-story arc called The Search for the Fourth Wall features Dr. McNinja as a member of the Gay Ninjas From Mars. It is revealed that Dr. McNinja studied together with Dr. Wendy and that he is gay.
