Kitsune Kiki
From Comixpedia
Kitsune Kiki is a manga inspired webcomic created by Samuel and David Thomas (Neato Neko and Ramune Rabbit respectively) of Angry Rabbit. It originally started its life as an entry for Tokyopop's 1st Rising Stars of Manga contest back in 2002. Despite their efforts, they didn't make it in the end. That, and the comic wasn't exactly very good. Still, not totally discouraged, and still seeing potential in the story and characters, they went through 5 story plots and a few rejected characters, before finally deciding on the one that you see today.

[edit] Plot
This webcomic follows the story of Kiki; a 400 year old Kitsune, who originally lived during ancient Japan, was punished for a crime she didn't commit, and was sealed up. 500 years have passed, and she now reawakens to a more modern time period, and seeks to regain her true power, and ultimately, her place in the world. In the background however, are lurking evils, both spirit and human, that will come to affect the Kitsune girl and her new family and friends. And just like in the Japan she used to remember, she finds herself defending, this time, a sleeping California, unknowing of the secret war that's about to be waged.
[edit] Characters
- Kiki - The heroine of this story. She fights for peace between human and spirit kind. She awakens after 500 years and tries to adjust in the modern era. Her elemental power is fire, and her special ability is illusion. She lost 3 of her tails before being imprisoned, as well being passed on as a kyuubi (nine tailed fox spirit), so her powers aren't as strong as they should be. While she can make use of her former power as a 4 tail, doing this slowly drains her life energy if used too much. Which is why it's so urgent for her to learn how to regain her missing tails. However, she also makes use of Ninjutsu techniques to conserve her power. Kiki knows her past, except for her conception. She's said to be evil incarnate where ever she goes despite having done good for others.
- Kasa-Kun - Kasa-kun has been Kiki’s oldest travel adviser and companion. He not only is knowledgeable about the world around him, but he keeps Kiki in check, and out of trouble (sometimes). Kasa-kun is always eager give information to those he trusts, and is always willing to learn new things. One helpful ability he possesses is the power to create a barrier that comes in handy to both him and Kiki. He's also been known to utilize a strong muscular leg in place of his regular pole which serves as his means of attacking as well as allow him higher mobility.
- Koji McCloud - he's the successor to the Demon Hunter of the same first name who imprisoned Kiki 500 years ago. While he most certainly has nothing in common with the Koji of old, he still shares the strong aura and scent that Kiki remembers from her past. He's the voice of reason of the group, and the most normal next to Kasa-kun. A nice guy, but is not afraid of letting people know what's on his mind, especially to those he cares for. His forte is mechanics and has a love of cars. He hopes to one day get an engineering degree and work for a major auto maker. There's more to this seemingly normal teenager, but what is it and was Kiki the only one who has noticed it so far?
- Mimi Rosetta - Koji's childhood friend, and daughter to Siena Rosetta; a successful hotel entrepreneur, who owns and runs the popular hotel, La Rosa. She, like Koji, seems to be a normal teenager on the surface. She enjoys shopping and hanging out with her friends. She also has a bit of a sweet tooth and is constantly concerned about her weight. Like her mother, she has become a natural born leader, is in the top of her class and is held in high regard with her classmates. And she's very skilled in Jujutsu. However, she can command the earth (her elemental power) via Terrakinesis, her special ability. However, her true past is just as sketchy, if not more so, then Kiki's. She happens to be a Tanuki (Raccoon Dog). However the rest of her family is human. Is she really just a Tanuki who happens to live life as a human? And how long can she keep her powers a secret, especially to her Mother and Koji? Only time will tell.
- Nini - A little Oni girl. Like Kiki, she seems to have originated from Japan. Her real age is unknown, but seems to be about 3 years old. Since she's so young, she hasn't really grasped the language being spoken around her quite yet, and uses basic Japanese and grunt sounds to communicate her thoughts. But don't let her small size fool you. She's surprisingly strong, and can utilize electric attacks once she's found an energy source (she's too young to generate any herself). But this little Oni's past just might top Kiki and Mimi's in terms of sheer mystery factor.
- Paris McCloud, Paris is the second born of the McCloud Family, and little sister to Koji McCloud. She's the group's "techie" so to speak, and her knowledge of various myths and legends is very impressive. Although that's probably attributed to the fact that her Father, Owen McCloud, does research and goes on various expeditions around the world for a living. She treats anyone she's familiar or friendly with as if they were extended family and this includes Kiki and Mimi especially. She shares a very special bond with Nini, and can be seen as her older sister. She can be a brat when she's bored though. It's possible that Paris has dormant powers like Koji, but it remains to be seen what exactly they are.
[edit] Kyuukei
These are another batch of comics in addition to the main story comics. Kyuukei means break or intermission in Japanese and since it starts with K like Kiki, it was a natural choice. Also because these comics have no effect on the canonical story, this lets Neato and Ramune have fun with the characters in ways they wouldn't normally act in the main story. Since Nini was created in the beginning, she appears in these comics frequently, where as she has yet to appear in the main comics due to the storyline. Also introduces minor characters, some of which find their way in the main story, but serve as comic relief. Other major characters like Gina appear, but it's usually not until they appear in the main comic.
