[edit] Plot Summary

Picture this: you're in a strange, new place. Everyone, especially the guy you like, seems to think you're "odd". You're encountered by myths on a daily basis. Oh, and you're a death god now.

At the Institution for Training in the Arts of Death, people who have renounced their former lives struggle to maintain their humanity while training to become Gods of Death. The history of the Institute is interwoven with many successes but also with many complex relationships and personal hardships, so it becomes easy to lose sight of good, mercy, and the highest of loves -- especially when one lives to deal with death and that beyond.

This comic was created not only for the sake of showing action, beauty, and comedy in diversity, but to explore how such unusual people would undergo their transformation into Gods of Death while still trying to be themselves. Do their morals adjust? How is their view of the world affected? What new phenomena do they discover? What becomes of their past issues? Are their lives limited now, or have they become more free?

And will Shinigami history repeat itself?

"Eat, drink, and be merry...for tomorrow, you die."

[edit] Story Info

There are seven types of Shinigami ("Death Gods") that students spend seven years training to become -- Clash (physical attack), Murmur (spells), Heart (body alchemy), Claw (animal), Ero (sexuality), State (alchemy), and Sound (holy). Each Shinigami uses their specialty to recover the wayward Souls of humans and fight monsters that try to interfere with human life.

The Shinigami come to deal with different kinds of Spirits, Weapons, Souls, and even Purgatory throughout their lives and training.

There are certain rules that a Shinigami should not break; one may not kill another Shinigami or a human before their time. If one does, then the Shinigami's soul is destroyed. A Shinigami must also never possess another body.

[edit] Characters

  • Kusari "Chains" Tapada, the main character. A new student at the Institute, he appears not to be so much interested in becoming a Shinigami as he is in the other students. People are put off by his apparent lack of focus and strange choice of clothing.
  • Eustace "Yu" Kirsch, withdrawn and not desirous of attention in his second year, had no real friends apart from Saru. When Chains (who nicknames him) begins a relationship with him despite his tie with Saru, he feels more passionate and more guilty than ever before in his life.
  • Saru Mbojan, a man with a very distinctly direct demeanor. Over the past year, he got to know Eustace well, perhaps more than anyone else ever had, and he finds himself easily envious of whoever else shares his company. However, he is physically weak, despite having quite a stamina.
  • Hibiku Tanja despises Chains like a cat in water and tries to avoid him whenever she sees him. She does not do a good job of it. She regrets their ever having met, but most regard her as over-sensitive. She tends to like being taken seriously.
  • Emblem Shieldwell has spent a lot of time disciplining his mind and body in attempt to reform himself since his just-passable high school days. He has scars on his body, remnants of his former fighting hobbies and intense bodybuilding. He's soft-spoken and very sensitive at heart.
  • Donna Fiefar often looks to her peers for support and guidance, despite how a lot of her peers can't immediately be trusted, least of all Chains. She actually does carefully choose who she can rely on. She always seems happy and knowledgeable beyond the others' understanding, ever able to provide her friends with moral support and/or vital information.

There are also many more characters.

[edit] Technical Bits

LOVEFEAST pages are created 100% digitally, from sketch to completion, mostly using Sai and Photoshop. Digital screentones are used sparingly; textures are used more often.
