Silent Shadow is an urban fantasy webcomic created by Jessica Green. It covers the adventures of a half-demon mage named Syleth and her partner, the wolf-demon (aka werewolf) Rowan. Silent Shadow is an open-ended series with one story (or act) currently being worked on and another two stories in planning.

Background: Daughter of a drug-addicted (later a religious fanatic) sorceress and a demon, Syleth was born in Minneapolis and raised by her aunt after her mother abandoned her for being “the spawn of the Devil.” Syleth grew up in South Minneapolis and later attended Patrick Henry Sr. High, graduating in ‘96. She attended the University of Minnesota. Syleth’s training in both martial-, and arcane arts began when she was fifteen and continued through her early college years. At the age of 28, Syleth reached the rank of a Master-class sorceress and later took on her aunt’s duties as Guardian of Minneapolis. The current storyline is Syleth’s first major case since becoming a Guardian.

Eyes: Bluish-green (sometimes red)

Hair: Varies (can be white, with blue at the tips, pure white or pure blue)

Ethnic background: Full demon ( wolf ). Appears to be of European descent.

Skills & Abilities: Keen hearing & sense of smell. Can detect magic by scent.

Likes: Women (in general; Syleth in particular), being lazy, occasionally drinking and partying.

Dislikes: Anyone (specifically male) paying too much attention to Syleth, or anyone atttempting to harm Syleth, spicy foods, and fast cars

Background: No one really knows Rowan's origins — except Rowan himself, and he's pretty tight-lipped about it (most demons are). He arrived in the Minneapolis area a number of years ago and is currently staying with Nathan (full human), and has come to consider Nathan the only friend he truly has. Rowan meets Syleth while hunting for the mysterious being that's responsible for the string of unexplained deaths in the city.

Magic

The system of magic that exists in the universe of Silent Shadow is essentially a mix of neo-paganism, science-fiction and various occult sources. There are a variety of different psychic gifts that show up in the series that range from the typical telepathy, telekinesis and empathy as well as pyrokinesis (fire-starting). The majority of the characters in the various Silent Shadow stories that possess these abilities are generally human. The other major gift that makes an appearance is the gift of sorcery or mage talent, which is usually described in the universe of Silent Shadow as the ability to see, sense and manipulate energy fields, whether they be natural, supernatural or artificial.

Demons and Supernatural Entities

The word "demon" is actually a misnomer for a class of ethereal beings that can take on a physical form—usually human or animal, sometimes both. Most demons are usually closely related to nature and will often take on physical forms that are closely related to their environment such as those of wolves, foxes, birds, etc. These are considered "good" demons. Other demons sometimes for out of the emotional emanations of humans (positive or negative). Incubi and succubi are a perfect example of this phenomena in action.

EMPs (Electromagnetic Phenomena)

It is hard to say what EMPs really are since only those that are gifted with the second-sight can see them and it appears, certain types of photographs. They seem to have come into existence within the last one hundred years and they generally cluster around high-voltage power-lines and electrical sub-stations, suggesting that they are a "byproduct" of electricity.

The Guardians

A rather secretive group of people gifted with sorcery and other abilities set to guard the rest of humanity against various supernatural phenomena as well as others with the same gifts who chose to use them for evil ends.
