[edit] Webcomic's plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow

The story starts with the Fifty-Peso Ninja (also known as FPN or Goh) as a wandering mercenary fighter walking on the streets of Barangay Jose, a fictional community located in Manila city. He saves a young woman named Donna Sebastian from some thugs. Seeing how strong FPN is, Donna hires him to fight crime in Barangay Jose. At first, FPN refuses due to an important mission he has to finish but changes his mind when Donna offers him free food, lodging and a weekly paycheck. Currently, FPN battles against the Malvado Group, the most powerful criminal organization in the Philippines.

[edit] Characters

(Note: This section is likely to change as the story progresses. May contain some spoilers.)

Goh (aka The Fifty-Peso Ninja aka FPN): The main protagonist of this series. He's a good-natured, entrepreneurial man who likes to eat and earn fast money. He charges a low fee of fifty Philippine Pesos in consideration of the poor economic status of the Philippines plus it generates faster income. Despite his unusual appearance (he looks like a reject from Naruto), Goh is a very skillful warrior whose level of ability is equal to that of a ninja master. His fighting style is Fifty-Peso Ninja style ninjutsu.

Donna Sebastian: Also known as Miss Donna, she is the darling of Barangay Jose. She's an attractive young woman who's always sweet and sentimental. She is also has a spunky side as seen in the earlier part of the webcomic.

The Malvado Group

Carlos "Killertop" Geronimo: An ex-wrestling champion and core member of the Malvado Group. He is a very large and muscular man with a tiny afro and an oversized jaw similar to Popeye's. His fighting style is professional wrestling.

Gabriel "Mister Grabeh" Alonzo: Malvado Group core member and assassin who doubles as a dance instructor. He's pictured as a lanky man in 70's disco attire. He has an unusual mullet/Elvis hairstyle and extremely long chest hair which pokes out of his shirt. His fighting style is capoiera.

Catherine "Lady Scorpion" Ricardo: The only female core member of the Malvado Group. Lady Scorpion is a daughter of former kickboxing champion Johnny "The Jet" Ricardo. After her father died, she worked as a bargirl to provide money and support for her younger sister Ynez until Julius Malvado recruited her as a bodyguard/assassin. Her primary martial art is Ricardo-style kickboxing and she's learned to use assassination techniques and a gusari gama-like weapon from Julius Malvado.

Steve "Pretty Boy" Magdayao: A handsome young man very skilled in Japanese-style swordsmanship. Little is known about him. Pretty Boy is second-in-command of the Malvado Group. For some reasons unknown, he hates the concept of justice.

Julius Malvado: The leader of the Malvado Group. He's a ruthless old man with a penchant for cigars. At this point, little is known about Julius but for some strange reason, he has an offer for FPN he can't refuse.

Minor Characters

The Narrator: An unseen narrator for the webcomic.

Kuya Eddie: Although not named in the webcomic, Kuya Eddie is a friendly tricycle driver living in Barangay Jose. Despite the fact that he's only 29 years-old, FPN mistook him for an old man. In the beginning, he displayed a pessimistic attitude due to the high crime rate in his village but he took a more positive attitude when FPN started "cleaning up the streets" of Barangay Jose.

Brutus Malvado: Son of Julius Malvado. Although not as smart as his father, Brutus is ruthless and uses brawns to get what he wants. In Act 1 of the webcomic, he had the misfortune of encountering FPN when he harassed Donna.

Pepeng Payatot: A skinny thug and member of the Malvado Group. He usually accompanies Brutus in his thuggery. He likes to chew toothpicks.

The Blarg Brothers (Adolpo and Benito Blargola): Muscular but nearly brainless identical twin brothers. They're members of the Malvado Group and constant companions of Pepeng Payatot and Brutus. Like Brutus, they had the misfortune of encountering FPN. They say "blarg" most of the time.

Wency Diego: Donna's cousin and waiter in the Hagibis restaurant.

Gerry Hagibis: Wency's employer and owner/chef of Hagibis restaurant.

Ynez Ricardo: Lady Scorpion's little sister. She is unhappy with the criminal life her older sister leads and wants her out of it especially when the Fifty-Peso Ninja stormed through Malvado Tower.

Johnny "The Jet" Ricardo: Lady Scorpion's now deceased father, a former kickboxing champion and gym owner. He was very dedicated parent and would protect them from harm even if it costs his life.

[edit] FPN in Topak! Humour Magazine

Until cancellation, The Fifty-Peso Ninja was published under Topak! humor magazine. To meet the magazine's criteria, Topak's The Fifty-Peso Ninja focuses more on the comedy and the events in the printed comic series take place after the webcomics' Malvado story-arc. In the printed version, FPN faces an array of unusual villains.

Villains in Printed series

The Peste Boyz: The Peste Boyz are a gang of thugs who live to rob people. As the name suggests, all of them look like animals considered as pests. (First Appearance: Topak! magazine Volume 1, Issue 1)

  • Boy Ipis: An overweight man who looks like a cockroach.
  • Boy Lamok: A skinny man who looks like a mosquito.
  • Boy Daga: The leader. He looks like a rat/mouse.

Deadly Bear: A professional assassin and master of Stuffed Toy Kung Fu. (First Appearance: Topak! magazine Volume 1, Issue 2)

[edit] Trivia

  • The Fifty-Peso Ninja started as a gag created by the creator when he wore an improvised ninja mask and charged fifty Philippine pesos for his ninja services in a Philippine-based convention to attract customers. After being inspired by the gag and urged by fellow comic artists, he created the comic series.
  • In the webcomic, there are popcultural references such as American Idol, Stephen Chow movies, Monty Python and Naruto but the most mentioned one is Filipino rock music. References to Filipino rock songs and rock bands like the Eraserheads and Parokya ni Edgar can be found throughout the series.
  • Donna is an Eraserheads fan as she was seen wearing an "Eraserheads Forever" shirt.
  • Wency Diego is named after Filipino singer Wency Cornejo and webcomic artist Jonas Diego.
  • Gerry Hagibis is named after the Filipino 70's rock band Hagibis and based on Gerry Alanguilan, a well-known Filipino comic book artist.
