The Interns is a webcomic written by Rachel B. and drawn by Lindsay Wyett, published every Monday and Thursday on Comic Genesis. The Interns features the college and work-related adventures of several college students. Strips lengths vary but are presented in full color, drawn in photoshop by Wyett. The first strip was published on June 18, 2004. According to the About section of the comic's website Rachel and Wyett decided to create a comic after the latter's boredom in her first summer internship. The site was also designed by Wyett.
[edit] Characters
Recurring characters in The Interns include:
- Lindsay, one of the two main original characters, based on the strip's writer. She was Rachel's roommate in the 2004-2005 school year. She is outwardly the saner and more responsible character, though she has incited and participated in numerous escapades herself.
- Rachel, a brown-haired original main character based on the strip's writer. She is fond of extensive gag jokes and erratic behavior and seems to possess a disconnected sense of reality.
- Ashley, an embittered employee of college tech support who often helps Rachel carry out various plans. She is living in an on-campus apartment with Rachel and Lindsay in the 2005 school year.
- Joey, a paranoid CS major who roomed with Jon in the 2004-2005 school year.
- Jon, a stereotypical obsessive video gamer and Halo fan who worked at a pet store over the 2005 summer.
- Ms. Becky, the college's slightly ditzy head librarian, also Rachel and Lindsay's employer during the 2004-2005 school year.
Minor non-reoccuring characters from previous story-arcs include Lawrence, DDR Guy, Courtney (a stereotypical airhead), Kaleriana (a stereotypical Goth), and the new Tech Support manager.
[edit] Themes
The Interns has an overall story-arc of college misadventures during the school year when the authors are in college and office antics while the authors hold various jobs in the summer. One-day gag strips are punctuated by two to three week-long mini-storylines, which have included Rachel and Lindsay fighting over an attractive new male employee, sneaking out of work at the library to attend their campus's Anime and Gaming Marathon, and dressing up as ninjas to steal chocolate when the office vending machine was empty.
