The Vanguard is a superhero team webcomic in the vein of Justice League or Avengers. Along with the superhero themes the comic also has the usual science fiction elements of alien races, starships, and advanced technology, including faster-than-light travel and communication, and beam weapons. The Vanguard is written, drawn and colored by Victor Daniel and updates weekly on either Thursdays or Fridays. The comic was first published to the web on April 21, 2006 at Webcomics Nation and is also mirrored at ComicSpace.

[edit] Story
The Vanguard is set in the 24th century where Earth is part of an interstellar republic of thousands of worlds called the Galactic Union of Planets, where the Vanguard is one of the strongest lines of defense for this interstellar civilization. The team is based on a powerful starship called the Stellar Vanguard which is also their primary mode of transportation. They are called upon to deal with a wide variety of threats to the safety and security of galactic civilization, from ruthless criminals armed with deadly 24th-century weaponry, to interstellar empires determined to own the galaxy, all the way up to beings with the power to destroy galaxies but no regard for other sentient life. They also perform more ordinary services like ship rescue, disaster relief, and the occasional dignitary transport. The team is primarily composed of members of a physically powerful, technologically advanced and near-immortal race called the Valourans, although other races, including humans, are also part of the group.

There have been five members of the Vanguard introduced so far, Thenurion, Sapphira, Franklys, Mekri, and Cerena. Basic descriptions of them are given below-more detailed information about them, including their powers, are on the Vanguard Cast Pages.
Thenurion-leader of the Vanguard, highly respected, powerful, and capable. Possessing a variety of superhuman, technological and people skills.
Sapphira-second in command and the wife of Thenurion, Sapphira possesses vast psionic abilities and a knowledge of the psychology and culture of dozens of alien races both within and outside the GUP (Galactic Union of Planets).
Franklys-scientific and technical genius of the team, and no slouch in the power department either.
Mekri-skilled pilot of a variety of high-speed vehicles, and focussing his powers on maximizing his super-speed.
Cerena-wife of Franklys and firstborn daughter of Thenurion and Sapphira, and a specialist in power and energy generation systems, which fits well with her tremendous energy-manipulation powers.
