The Zombie Hunters is an online comic written and illustrated by Jenny Romanchuk. This webcomic, The Zombie Hunters, is a new look at an old theme. It is inspired by a post-apocalyptic vision of the future as well as past human history. This story follows a group of zombie hunters as they go though life as survivors of the undead outbreak. They reside on an island that is home to the Argus Research Campus. The hunters, like so many others on the island, are infected -- they carry a dormant strain of the undead virus, which will cause them to turn into one of several different types of undead when they die. The infected are marked and segregated from the rest of the inhabitants on the island, making a living by working offshore in the wastes, hunting zombies and collecting salvage, trading their freedom for safety. As the story unfolds you'll find out more about the characters and their sordid pasts and discover hidden secrets about them, their world, and the people that surround them.
The story starts with you following along with a team of zombie hunters who seem to be lost in an undead infested wasteland...
[edit] Production History
At first this comic was a private story for friends. It was loosely based off of a dream Jenny had where one day she decided to make a series of short comics about it in 2004. Months later she posted a few pages online and other people came to like it. People were asking her to do more, and more, and more, so she then decided to actually make a short web comic about her and her friends ‘adventures' as zombie hunters. The comic was only supposed to be a non-plot gag a strip series, and was only going to run for no more than a handful of pages, but as people came to like it, Jenny became to like it more as well, so in 2005 she decided to sit down and actually write a full-length script for it. This is where she THEN made the decision to keep all of the characters the same and unchanged even despite the negative stigma associated with having a self insert comic and the 'Mary-Sue' label. Though she really doesn't care what other people think and who wouldn’t want to run around and kill zombies? Jenny is unashamed to proudly show off that she would rather be running around bashing in undead heads than boring old daily life, and if she can only live that dream in webcomic format, then, so be it!
The comic had went on hiatus for an extended period of time in the middle of 2005. One of Jenny's family members had suffered a severe health issue, and with that and other issues surrounding that made it difficult for her to keep up with school, be at her field placement for graphic design, and make comics. There was a point where Jenny was going to cancel the comic all together because of a plot issue with the story, but decided against it and trashed the previous script entirely and redid the story for The Zombie Hunters from the ground up for the 3rd time, where is was relaunched late 2006.
